The Riserva is exclusively produced during the best vintages following an even more scrupulous grape selection. A wine of outstanding structure, it is enhanced by a very long aging period in French and Slavonian oak barrels.

The 2018 vintage experienced a very cool and windy climate, registeringtemperatures below average even during summer. This led maturation to last throughout September and benefit from the remarkable diurnal temperature variation. At the end of the month, they harvested perfectly fragrant Sangiovese grapes distinguished by a well-balanced phenolic concentration, hinting to a solid and phenomenal aging.

Professional Ratings

94 James Suckling
Bold, ripe aromas of raspberries, black cherries, oak bark and black pepper. On the palate the acidity carries the finish of blood orange and cherry notes, with chalky yet ripe tannins and a full body. Longer finish than expected. Drink or hold.

Cherry, raspberry, eucalyptus, menthol and iron flavors mingle with dense, dusty tannins in this intense red. There's plenty of fruit at the center, but it's locked in a strong embrace of tannins today. Be patient. Best from 2027 through 2042.

A saturated red color, the 2018 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva is sunny and ripe with aromas of baked red plum, licorice candies, balsamic herbs, and violets. Medium-bodied, it offers a tangy snap of acidity on the palate, with fine tannins and a clean citrus note on the finish. Offering a refreshing lift and floating off the palate nicely, it’s a very charming Riserva to enjoy over the next 10 or so years.
