The Dutton-Gavenstein Vineyard is located in the Sebastopol Hills sub-AVA within the Sonoma Coast. This vineyard is known for its rolling, hilly terrain at moderate elevation with small parcel sizes. Historically, the area was planted to apple orchards, which have gradually transitioned to vineyards over the past few decades. Planted to 100% Calera clone, this block of the Dutton-Gravenstein Vineyard has iron-rich Goldridge soils that produce wines full of dark fruit, minerality, and structure. As a bonus, the 100 year-old apple orchard adjacent to the vineyard provides a perfect snack break.

Fruit harvested by hand at night. Hand-sorted and gently destemmed to keep whole berries intact with 40% whole-cluster inclusion. Two day cold soak under dry ice to preserve freshness. Native yeast fermentation in open-top tanks with gentle pumpovers and manual punchdowns. After 18 days on the skins, wine is gravity drained overnight and barreled down for malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, 25% new. Aged for 11 months. Bottled unfined and lightly filtered.
