Sweet and smoky with tobacco leaf, espresso, lead pencil and ripe, dark red berry notes create the aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is soft, round, polished, sweet and fruity. There is lift, character and a load of ripe red berries in the finish. Enjoy this while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. Drink from 2023-2034. 91 Points

Professional Ratings

92 James Suckling
A medium-bodied red with blackberries and crushed stones. Walnuts and pine box, too. Medium, round tannins and a juicy finish. Second wine of Pape Clement. Drink after 2024.
91 DECANTER
Blackcurrant, black pepper and milky chocolate on the nose. This shows fine definition of cherry, strawberry and raspberry fruit. High-toned, a little too much, but there is good acidity here. Fresh and lively, perhaps just not so layered. Fine tannins coat the mouth, gently providing support. A little oaky still at this stage. Drinking Window 2024 - 2035.
91 WINE ADVOCATE
Composed of 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 65% Merlot, the 2019 Clémentin de Pape Clement was harvested from the 18th of September to the 11th of October. Ninety-three percent is aging in French oak barriques, 66% new, and 7% is aging in large foudres. Deep garnet-purple in color, the nose hits the ground running with exuberant plum preserves and baked cherries scents plus wafts of raspberry leaves, wild sage, damp soil and nutmeg. Medium-bodied, the palate has plenty of character and zing with a grainy texture, oodles of freshness and a mineral-tinged finish.
