The Jura is known for wines made “sous voile,” or “under a veil” of flor which imparts a unique salty, curry-spiced character to the wine (similar to sherry but with greater exposure to oxygen). The region also produces “ouillé” or “topped up” wine styles, retaining a more common expression of the variety without flor notes.
Rolet’s Expression du Terroir sees both styles in one bottle, with 70% Chardonnay aged ouillé for three years in foudre and 30% Savagnin aged for three years sous voile. The result? A deep golden, nearly pale amber color. Subtle sotolon aromas merry well with exotic green papaya and red hots. Creamy reductive Chardonnay fills the palate with salted almonds sprinkled atop. Medium bodied with a broad phenolic grip. A wine with a big personality and something to say… truly unforgettable!
